Prysmian’s $3.8B Atkore Deal would add Quebec Fiberglass-Conduit Plant to Canadian Footprint

Prysmian’s $3.8B Atkore Deal would add Quebec Fiberglass-Conduit Plant to Canadian Footprint

August 4, 2026

Prysmian’s proposed US$3.8-billion acquisition of Atkore is primarily a move to deepen the Italian cable manufacturer’s U.S. electrical-products presence, but it also carries a meaningful Canadian angle for the electrical channel.

If the transaction closes as expected, Prysmian would add Atkore’s FRE Composites manufacturing operation in Saint-André-d’Argenteuil, Que., near Montréal, to its Canadian footprint. The FRE facility manufactures filament-wound fiberglass conduit products and accessories serving electrical, utility, telecommunications, data centre, transportation, commercial and industrial applications. Atkore acquired FRE Composites in 2021; the Quebec operation is located at 75 Rue Wales in Saint-André-d’Argenteuil.

The acquisition would broaden Prysmian’s Canadian manufacturing base beyond its existing five production plants, which include cable and conductor operations in Quebec and Ontario. Prysmian’s Canadian facilities manufacture products ranging from building wire and low- and medium-voltage power cable to bare overhead conductors and aluminum rod and strip.

For Canadian electrical wholesalers, the combination could bring a more complete cable, conduit and cable-management offering under one corporate umbrella. Prysmian has traditionally been strongest in wire and cable, while Atkore adds electrical conduit and cable-management systems that are sold into many of the same construction, utility, infrastructure and data-centre projects. The Quebec-based FRE operation is particularly relevant to applications requiring corrosion-resistant fiberglass conduit, including utilities, transit, industrial facilities, telecommunications and data centres. For electrical distributors, the deal could streamline sourcing of wire, cable, conduit and cable-management products while strengthening Prysmian’s position with major infrastructure and construction accounts.

Prysmian has offered US$95 per Atkore share in cash, valuing the transaction at about US$3.8 billion. The company expects the acquisition to generate approximately US$150 million in annual pre-tax benefits within three years of closing, while creating a larger North American platform positioned around electrification and data-centre infrastructure demand.
