CEDA Executive Expanded – 1948

CEDA Executive Expanded

Sept 23, 2019

By John Kerr

As CEDA’s membership and influence increased, its executive expanded accordingly.  George West became the first Honorary Treasurer, responsible for chairing the finance committee and controlling the Association’s funds. A second vice-presidential position was created, allowing for greater regional representation at the executive level.

The obligations of a distributor to conform to CEDA’s policies when running his business was raised at the annual meeting in Toronto. It was decided that a decision made at any level of CEDA, insofar as it affected the individual business of a member, could be interpreted at the liberty of the distributor. Members, however, were cautioned:  “The good of the whole industry is of far greater importance than that of any one company, and that any ruling would most likely work to the advantage of all of the members, even if no real benefit was readily apparent at the time the ruling was made.”

Representation within the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Wholesalers Association had been proposed, was considered, and rejected by the directors as being “unnecessary”.
