We find at this time mention of the earliest wage survey to have been conducted by CEDA (April 6, 1949). By this time, wages had been unfrozen from the war-time rates and thus were considered to be significantly higher.

CEDA Executive ExpandedAs CEDA’s membership and influence increased, its executive expanded accordingly. George West became the first Honorary Treasurer, responsible for chairing the finance committee and controlling the Association’s funds. A second vice-presidential position was created, allowing for greater regional representation at the executive level.

CEDAThis year saw the introduction of movies for educational seminars. Secretary Edmunds reported:

CEDAStill in its infancy, CEDA lacked the detailed organization found in mature associations.  A one-sentence condition of acceptance was all that then defined membership requirements, that being “Prospective members must be acceptable to two-thirds of the membership.”

Founding CEDAIn Canada, electrical distributors first came together under the banner of the Canadian Electrical Distributors Association (CEDA) on March 29, 1934. Those men of goodwill as they were once described by Christian Major have passed on but the foundation they built lives on in this dynamic industry. In his diary, Kerrwil founder Jack Kerr noted the following: “Ham Gardiner exercised magnificent foresight in forming CEDA..."

David Gordon New 400Everyone is an expert in pricing. It’s either too high or too low based upon your role. Salespeople like it low. Management wants it high. The customer wants it “right” which, usually means “competitive” or “It’s reasonable for the value I am receiving.”

And the term “value” is intriguing as it infers that you understand
• the value that you bring
• the value that your product / service brings
• the competitive landscape (which also includes alternatives and inertia)

But I digress.

Investment In Building Construction - July 2020Total investment in building construction increased 1.8% to $15.1 billion in July. Residential sector investment increased 4.9% to $9.9 billion, while non-residential investment decreased 3.7% to $5.3 billion.

Construction activity has rebounded in the last few months, with investment in building construction remaining slightly lower than February 2020 levels, before COVID-19 construction restrictions were first put in place. On a constant dollar basis (2012=100), investment in building construction increased 2.0% to $12.4 billion.
