Weidmüller Canada: Committed to Continued Innovation & Growth in Canadian Industry

50 Years in Canada and a New Strategic Location Reinforces Weidmüller’s Presence and Contributions in Canadian Industry

By: Adora Hartley

June has marked some major milestones for Weidmüller Canada, having recently celebrated 50 years of operation in Canada, in addition to 175 years of developing innovative solutions that have helped shape industries on a global scale. As part of the company’s ongoing national expansion, a new facility strategically located in Southeast Calgary, will serve as Weidmüller’s regional hub for Western Canada, supporting operations across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

I had the opportunity to attend this milestone event, speaking with key individuals who were able to provide insights into some of the reasons for expanding Weidmüller’s presence in Western Canada.

Expanding Weidmüller’s Presence in Western Canada

As part of Weidmüller’s national expansion strategy, the new Calgary location serves to reinforce their commitment to growth as well as facilitating improved customer proximity. It will allow for faster availability of products, training and expertise for their clients and distributors, serving industries within the region in Data Center, Energy, Food & Beverage, Electrical and growing Automation sectors.

“For the past five decades, our Canadian headquarters in Markham, Ontario has supported customers across the country,” said Gary Martins, Managing Director – Canada. “Now, the time is right to establish a dedicated presence in Western Canada. This region has long been a strong market for us and continues to show tremendous potential. Opening this new office reflects our ongoing commitment to the West and represents an exciting step forward in deepening our relationships with valued customers and partners throughout the region.”

Drive and demand for establishing a Western Canadian hub was so notable that when Jenny Raguimov, Vice President of Finance & Operations – Canada and Shannon Gooden, C.E.T., Regional Sales Manager in Alberta, presented the proposal for a facility in Western Canada, the project was approved immediately by the Board. This demonstrates just how much growth and development has been occurring in this region that investment was an obvious choice, expanding Weidmüller Canada as a whole while simultaneously allowing the company to further cultivate relationships with customers and partners located in Western Canada.

Emphasizing Training & Innovation

The new Calgary regional location has been purpose-built to support both customers and employees and includes:

  • A dedicated workspace for the local sales team.
  • A Learning Centre designed for hands-on, in-person product training.
  • An Automation Lab equipped with the latest technologies, enabling the team to design, implement, and test solutions using both simulation tools and real-world hardware. This collaborative space allows the Weidmüller team to tackle complex automation challenges and develop customized solutions tailored to their customers’ specific needs.

The new site took approximately 3 months to complete, with renovations beginning in March 2025. The office workspace, Learning Centre and Automation Lab are operational, with trajectory for the warehouse and IT for multiple workstations to be completed in early 2026. These multi-workstations will be utilized to create and develop DIN rail assemblies and custom cabinet solutions.

“This investment allows us to be closer to our customers, enabling faster and more effective support,” said Alfredo Marrello, Regional Sales Manager – Western Canada. “We’re particularly excited about the Automation Lab, as it highlights Weidmüller’s commitment to delivering innovative, leading-edge automation solutions for our partners.”

Remembering a Leader & Mentor

As part of the celebrations, Weidmüller proudly dedicated its new Learning Centre to the late Terry Hodgson, former Vice President of Weidmüller Americas. As a respected leader and mentor, Terry served the organization for over 20 years in various leadership roles, with his dedication and passion leaving a lasting impact and continues to inspire those who had the privilege to work with him. Terry’s family was also in attendance at the event and were able to share in celebrating Terry’s memory and legacy at Weidmüller.

With weekly training commencing the day following the grand opening, it demonstrates how seriously the Weidmüller team is dedicated to continued innovation and pushing their products to the next level to provide excellence for their customers.

Dignitaries Attending Grand Opening

This new Calgary office strengthens Weidmüller’s position as a trusted source for automation and connectivity solutions, dedicated to innovation and driving customer success across Canada. The grand opening welcomed over 150 attendees, including distributors, customers, and both current and former Weidmuller employees.

The event was marked by the presence of dignitaries such as Dr. Christian von Toll, Chief Sales Officer of the Weidmüller Group; Lukas Kirstgen, Vice President at the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Inc.; Nathan Neudorf, from Government of Alberta and Thomas E. Smith, from Government of Alberta. Their participation, along with that of valued stakeholders, illustrated the importance of this new office to the region and to Weidmüller’s continued growth in Canada.
