Nov 3, 2018

Heather and Elaine Gerrie, co-presidents of Gerrie Electric, are this year’s winners of the Burlington, Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s Distinguished Entrepreneur Award.

The Gerrie sisters are the first co-winners of this award — a testament to the fact that together they are a true leadership team, says the Burlington, Ontario Chamber of Commerce. Heather and Elaine became executives in the family business in 1988. Since then they have grown that business from two divisions to seven. They have taken the family business multi-national and grown it from an impressive $30 million operation to over $200 million.

The Gerrie sisters were honoured at a special dinner event on October 25.

The award is intended to recognize an individual who
• is actively involved with, and has grown a successful, engaging business in Burlington
• reflects entrepreneurship through their business interests
• has given back to the Burlington community
• strengthens the image of Burlington

With over 400 employees and 24 locations, Gerrie Electric is now a Certified Women’s Business Enterprise. Certification is built on the Women Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) U.S. model and WBE Canada’s rigorous standard of certification.
