E.B. Horsman & Son has announced the winners of their scholarships, through the Electro-Federation Canada Scholarship Program. The recipients are Jason Wells, Cody Bessey and Lawrence Chiu.

Jason Wells is working towards his Industrial Electrician Diploma at Thompson Rivers University. Jason is currently apprenticing at Canadian Forest Products and spends his free time helping people in need within his community. “Winning the E.B. Horsman scholarship award is a fantastic surprise! I have never received a scholarship award before, so it means a lot and for me, and it is a big deal” said Jason Wells. “The application process has made me reflect on what my goals are upon completion of my trade, and has helped me to see the many doors that can be opened upon certification. As an apprentice I am being supported by a major player in the electrical distribution sector, and my hard work and effort has been recognized by them”.

Cody Bessey is working towards his Electrical Engineering degree at British Columbia Institute of Technology. During the summer months Cody works at PCTM on projects involving PLC programming, HMI Graphics, Instrumentation, Motor Control Centers, Variable Frequency Drives and Power Distribution. “I would like to express my appreciation for the scholarship that E.B. Horsman has awarded me. It will have an important impact on my academic career” said Cody Bessey. “Having been relieved of some of the financial expenses associated with getting a postsecondary degree in electrical engineering, I intend to participate in IEEE as well as Presentation Idol. I will work hard to be a positive representative for both E.B. Horsman and BCIT”.

Lawrence Chiu is working towards his Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Calgary. He is currently a co-op intern with Dr. Murari, works on beta testing of PCB design software and is a Raspberry Pi Hobbyist working on many projects including WatcherPi, PlexMediaPi and GPIOPi. “This scholarship will grant me both the time and financial backing for my education and Engineering extra-curriculars” said Lawrence Chiu. “Education is important to me, and I work hard in school as I know it is the first step towards creating a meaningful and productive Engineering career. I really appreciate being given this opportunity, as every little bit helps to make ends meet in achieving my goals.” This marks the 3rd year for E.B. Horsman & Son’s EFC scholastic program that will be offered annually to Western Canadian students to cultivate, encourage and support their studies while exposing them to the electrical industry. “Our involvement in the EFC scholarship program provides us with a great deal of satisfaction.
