Hubbell Incorporated has recently announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Northern Star Holdings, Inc. (commercially known as Systems Control), a portfolio company of Comvest Partners, for $1.1 billion in cash, subject to customary adjustments. Systems Control is a manufacturer of substation control and relay panels, as well as turnkey substation control building solutions. These highly engineered offerings are mission-critical to grid reliability, enabling utility customers to protect and control substation infrastructure while detecting faults and controlling the flow of electricity.

The company Eaton, specialized in energy management, recently inaugurated a global innovation center in Brossard that will bring together its research and development activities in energy technologies in one place. Approximately 150 employees are already gathered in the new facilities of the company, occupying two floors of a building north of Highway 10. Eaton aims to accelerate the development of distributed energy resources technologies, which are at the heart of the energy transition. “The ambitions for Quebec are truly incredible,” stated Romulo Monteiro, site manager at Eaton, in an interview with La Presse.

This program provides a vehicle for association members to help Canadians gain affordable homeownership through cash and product donations. On October 2nd, World Habitat Day, Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) members and their business partners were united for the 3rd Annual EFC Day of Giving in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada. In 2022, thanks in part to the generosity of EFC members, Habitat Canada was able to serve more than 2,400 families and build 194 new homes.
Recharge Véhicule Électrique (RVE) announces total investments of over $7 million to support the development and deployment of innovative solutions that democratize access to home charging for electric vehicle owners across North America. This project will eventually free up 4,000 megawatts of power from the electrical grid, and enable electric vehicle charging to be moved to off-peak hours, argues David Corbeil, president and co-founder of RVE with his sister Marie-Pier. Fondaction, Export Development Canada (EDC) and Investissement Québec each contribute $2 million and a grant of nearly $2 million from the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie completes this transaction.
All new construction contracts in Alberta must adhere to the rules of the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act as of August 29, 2022. Existing contracts that are scheduled to end before August 29, 2024 do not need to be changed to adhere to the new rules. Existing contracts that extend beyond August 29, 2024 have to become compliant by August 29, 2024.
