Westburne Launches Women of Westburne (WOW) Initiative

EIN 21 Westburn WOW 400

May 13, 2019

Led by Divisional Lighting Manager Salma Siddiqui, the initiative will focus on making Westburne the workplace of choice in the electrical industry and beyond.

Results from research conducted by Westburne found that the electrical industry has a ratio of 3:1 of male vs. female employees. “Realizing these stats are the industry norm has made our eyes open and realize we need to make a change and showcase our women who work for us and at the same time make Westburne the place women would love to work for,” the company says.

Westburne describes its role as promoting a culture of welcome, opportunity and personal growth for all — in every Westburne location — and to showcase what Westburne, and specifically the Women of Westburne, can do. WOW aims to take steps towards evolution, opening the door to collaborative discussion about what actions Westburne can take.

Westburne will use WOW as a forum for discussion internally and then hopes to present this initiative externally so other people in the industry can also take part.

The first few steps will be to

  • look into the company’s employee charter to see what improvements can be made
  • explore how to make its facilities a better place to work in for everyone
  • promote a healthy work environment, healthy eating, and an active lifestyle
  • make its branches a warm, inviting place for customers and employees
  • participate in volunteer events centred on women (shelters, mentoring programs, Big Brother/Big Sister, etc)
  • participate in job fairs to showcase the initiative and career opportunities at Westburne

Westburne has 104 locations across Canada offering energy, lighting, wire and cable, automation and connected network solutions.
