Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) has chosen Habitat for Humanity Canada as its partner of choice for industry social responsibility initiatives.

Founded in 1985, Habitat for Humanity Canada is a national, non-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a decent and affordable place to call home. Like Habitat for Humanity Canada, EFC also believes in bringing communities together as a way to help families establish stability and independence through home ownership.

Habitat has great alignment with EFC as many members are already engaged with the charity and the ‘Power to Build’ program is an opportunity for other EFC members who manufacture and sell electrical products to make an impact on families and communities and promote electrical safety,” says John Jefkins, EFC’s VP Marketing & Communications.

Siemens Canada, Schneider Electric, and Standard Products are among EFC members who are already affiliated with Habitat. In the past these companies have donated funds and supplied products for specific projects, including wiring, circuit panels and breakers, fire prevention products, switches and receptacles. Employees have also committed their time to team builds

Within EFC, a dedicated committee has been set up for Habitat, co-chaired by Russ Morgan, President of IPEX and Frank Dunnigan, President of Techspan. Over the next year, the committee will be working hard to raise funds and work alongside Habitat Canada through various programs.

The importance of creating these partnerships is paramount, confirms Sarah Austin, Senior Manager —Communications at Habitat for Humanity Canada. “Having supporters such as Electro-Federation Canada is so important. Habitat Canada is looking forward to a partnership that means, together, we can continue helping more families build healthier futures for themselves and their children.”

In addition to EFC’s efforts, companies are also encouraged to reach out to Robyn Clark (rclark@habitat.ca) directly if interested in any of the following activities:

·     team build days, where companies can send up to 20 individuals to any build site across Canada

·     title home sponsorship, which provides an opportunity to become a principal stakeholder in a home build from start to finish

·     restore sampling campaigns

·     other customized national campaigns that help promote companies as a good corporate citizen

With all these ways to get involved, it makes it easy to extend the “giving season” beyond the holidays, and give back all throughout the year.
