Cash Discount Introduced – 1955

Looking Back

April 9, 2020
The issue of Saturday closing in Ontario again surfaced, and members agreed to close Saturday mornings from May 21 to September 3, inclusive.

It was noted that members were “very pleased” with the co-operation of manufacturers in allowing 2% cash discounts, although Western members pointed out the difficulties for them in taking advantage of the discounts because of transit time from the manufacturers.

Perhaps the most interesting move of CEDA members was to introduce their own 2% cash discounts for their customers.

At the Western Convention in Harrison Hot Springs, co-operative buying by distributors was discussed but generally not favoured. The thought was expressed that it could possibly be done locally among two or three members. (Was this the germ of an idea that led to the eventual formation of Span-Can, Copel and Translec?)
