Canada’s Electrical Industry Mourns Passing of John Mathe – October 23, 1960 to September 12, 2026

John Mathe has passed away on Saturday, September 12th, 2026.
Born October 23rd, 1960 in Etobicoke, Ontario, John Mathe was a graduate of Michael Power High School and Fanshawe College. John started in the electrical industry in the early 80’s with Thomas & Betts. First on inside sales and then SW Ontario sales rep.
In 1998 John joined his sister and brother in law (Mary Beth and Frank Dunnigan) at Techspan Industries. He rose from product manager to VP Marketing and was instrumental in the growth of Techspan over the years. John retired from Techspan at the end of 2019 but the draw of the electrical industry was strong.
In 2021 John couldn’t stay away and joined the technical sales team at Mersen, where he worked until his untimely death.
John was well-known and respected in the electrical industry for over 40 years. Ever the detail-oriented technician, John approached his passions with incredible focus and drive. Whether golf, road cycling, classic rock, guitars, scotch, or his beloved Maple Leafs, John approached them all with a joy of statistics and detail.
John is survived by his common-law partner, Rosanne Cooper (mother of Cat Cooper), with whom he shared his life in Collingwood, Ontario. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and business associates. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for his birthday, October 23rd, 2026 in Collingwood, Ontario, with the location to be announced at a later date.
