EFC’s Product Sections is undergoing a change of guards: Rob McIntyre will retire from his position as VP, Technical Services, in the coming weeks. Gurvinder Chopra has stepped in. Rob will stay on at EFC for the next several weeks to provide support during this transitional period.

In his role as VP, Standards and Regulation at EFC, Gurvinder Chopra is responsible for leadership and management of all technical-related issues pertaining to EFC’s Product Sections, task groups and committees. Gurvinder will review, advise and influence the development of codes and standards in the best interest of EFC members and other stakeholders. He will ensure that appropriate action is taken on all proposed standards, reports or technical documents, which could affect the interests of members.  He will be maintaining and developing vital contacts and relations with other associations, standards development organizations, government representatives, members of the media and member companies.

Gurvinder comes from CSA Group, where he managed Industrial and Hazloc Operations in Canada, as well as cross-market programs consisting of services like Functional Safety, Global Market Access, Cyber Security, Inspections and Management Systems. Before joining EFC, he was Director of Global Accounts, looking after product certification and training needs of key global clients at CSA.

Gurvinder has a degree in Marine Engineering and has worked with companies like Lloyd’s Register & BSI (British Standards Institution) in their locations in India, UK, USA and Canada, managing the Operations and Business Development of Management Systems, Marine & Industrial certifications, and Quality, Safety & Risk Management system services for variety of industries and ships. Claudia Hamza has been appointed Manager, Product Sections to cover Cherith Sinasac’s maternity leave. Claudia is responsible for providing ongoing leadership to EFC’s Product & Distribution Sections to enhance their respective product sector position in the Canadian electrical marketplace. She will ensure all efforts are consistent with EFC’s mandated areas of sustainability, government and regulatory relationships and influence, product design and manufacturing safety, market research/statistics, communications, industry networking and codes and standards development.

Claudia has an engineering background in Aircraft Engineering (Avionics) from the University of Toronto. Before starting at EFC, she was as a Product Engineer at Creation Technologies, an electronics manufacturer. She brings with her experience working in a number of industries, including oil and gas, electrical and electronics, and medical equipment.
