2024 EFC Award of Excellence Winner: Vladimir Gagachev, Eaton

The EFC Award of Excellence for Standards and Regulations is presented annually to a current or retired member of EFC who has made outstanding contributions to the industry in standards and regulations. This year, EFC had four highly esteemed nominees for the EFC 2024 Award of Excellence:

  • Michael Smith, EFC Alumni
  • Vladimir Gagachev, Eaton Industries
  • Michael Frayne, Hammond Power Solutions
  • Dejan Lenasi, Signify Canada

EFC is pleased to announce the voting resulted in this year’s winner, Vladimir Gagachev, Eaton Industries.

Vladimir has been with Eaton Industries for more than 20 years.  He is actively involved with EFC, participating as the Chair of the EFC Technical Advisory Council (ETAC), Distribution Equipment, EV Chargers, Field Service, and Industrial Control Business Sections, Cybersecurity IoT, EFC CE Code Part I Committee, in addition to 22 task groups.

Being very highly regarded by his colleagues, the nominating submission noted that Vladimir has consistently provided support for many areas of the electrical industry at various levels of Codes and Standards in Canada. He also serves on many Business Sections, task groups, and subcommittees; specifically CE Code Part I, bringing a strong knowledge of application, installation and production of products. Vladimir is always open for discussion and shares his knowledge openly on details of industry needs, which is extremely valuable.

Some of Vladimir’s other electrical industry contributions involve:

  • Membership in the Association of Professional Engineers Ontario
  • Member of the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety (SCORES)
  • Vice-Chair on the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) Technical Committee on Switchgear and control gear and their assemblies for low voltage
  • A Member of the SCC Technical Committee on Power Control Systems.
  • Participates on UL Standards Technical Panels
  • Participates on several CANENA Technical Harmonization Committees
  • Membership on the ISO Technical Committee on Security & Resilience.
  • Member of the Ontario Provincial Code Council – Electrical Safety Authority
  • Canadian Anti-Counterfeiting Network Steering Committee member
  • Participation on 35 CSA technical committees & subcommittees, some of which include:
    • Vice Chair, Technical Subcommittee on Enclosed Switches,
    • Chair of Technical Committee on International Standards
    • Member, CE Code Part IV Technical Committee on Objective Based Industrial Electrical Code (OBIEC) & Technical Subcommittee on OBIEC – Technical Content
