Ontario Day | EFC Connects with Province’s Leaders on Supporting Energy Efficiency

December 3, 2024

On November 26th and 27th, EFC met with the Office of the Premier , Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation & Trade, and Ministry of Energy & Electrification to discuss the importance of Electrification for attracting investment, expanding operations, creating jobs, and supporting a growing population in Ontario.

The Ontario government has a thriving industry of electrical manufacturers, distributors, agents and field service providers who design, develop, distribute, and install electrical and automation products that support energy efficiency.

To meet Ontario’s goals to expand energy infrastructure, EFC’s participants communicated the importance of continuing the advancement of positive policy signals & direct investments in the sector to secure Ontario’s electrification supply chains through enhancing local capacity. This includes the importance of securing critical minerals. In Ontario, EFC members contribute $6.7 billion to GDP, support 47,000 jobs and represent $4 billion in labour income. EFC members want to invest more, expand operations and create jobs in Ontario to support and partner with the province on initiatives that further grid modernization, expand the energy infrastructure, create building and home energy efficiency, and support electric vehicle integration & infrastructure.

Considering the recent news on trade, EFC participants reiterated the importance of the North American supply chain and the importance of their trade relationship with the US and Mexico. EFC invited the Ontario government to partner with EFC and consult with the industry on initiatives related to grid modernization, building efficiency, and ZEV infrastructure. EFC also invites the government to tour EFC member sites and learn more about Ontario’s dynamic electrical and automation sector.

EFC extends its sincere thanks to the following members of the Ontario Government for taking the time to hear from EFC and its member representatives: Kevin Lynch, Director of Policy from the Office of the Premier of Ontario, Honourable Sam Oosterhoff, Associate Minister of Energy-Intensive Industries, Crystal Mason, Chief of Staff to Associate Minister Oosterhoff, Brittany Greenland, Director of Policy and Stakeholders to Associate Minister Oosterhoff, Nicolas Bottger, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Energy and Electrification, and Devin Nicol, Director of Policy to the Minister of Energy and Electrification.

The knowledge and perspective of EFC’s members is invaluable, and they are grateful for the following individuals who joined in representing EFC’s membership: Alexei Miecznikowski, Northern Transformers, Jeff MacDonald, Schneider Electric, Nabil Salem, Current, and Umesh Patel, Eaton.
