Nominations for the WiRE Woman of the Year Award Now Open

WiRE Women of Distinction Awards recognize and celebrate professional women in the energy sector who go above and beyond business-as-usual, consistently demonstrate outstanding leadership, and have contributed significantly to expansion and improve-ment in the power sector.

WiRE presents three Women of Distinction Awards annually: Wind Power, Solar Power and Woman of the Year.

The WiRE Woman of the Year Award will recognize a Canadian woman in the energy sector who has served the industry with distinction, gone above and beyond the call of duty, and contributed significantly to the expansion and improvement of the power sector.

The WiRE Award will be presented by WiRE Founders and Co-Chairs Joanna Osawe and Rebecca Black on November 15, 2016 as part of the annual Canadian Power Banquet, during the Association of Power Producers of Ontario’s 28 Annual Canadian Power Conference and Networking Centre.

Applications are due by 5:00 PM EST on October 14, 2016. 

Nomination criteria

The nominee must stand out as a leader who has contributed significantly to the expansion and improvement of the renewable energy field. This may be demonstrated by the nominee through excellence in areas such as

  • volunteering
  • leadership
  • policy and advocacy
  • technical advancement / research and development
  • project development
  • community engagement and increased adoption of renewable energy technologies
  • being a role model contributing to the advancement of women in the sector

The nominee must be a woman working in Canada.

Emphasis will be placed on excellence in the private sector. To recognize the invaluable contributions made by women in the non-profit, public, and volunteer sectors, a new award will be announced later this year.
