Phillip Pallotta from Vaughan, Ontario, has been awarded the J.W. Kerr — EFC Scholarship.

The Kerrwil Continuing Education Scholarship, part of the Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) scholarship program, is granted to a university or college graduate in a Canadian school who has completed at least their second year in an Engineering or Business program with a minimum cumulative average of 75% and has a desire to drive forward in a marketing, product management in the electrical industry. Applicants must be either a current employee or relative of someone currently employed within the Canadian Electrical industry, including electrical wholesale, electrical equipment manufacturing representatives or electrical manufacturing.

After completing an advanced diploma in Business Administration and Marketing at George Brown College, Phillip has been accepted at Ryerson University as a third year student, majoring in Business Management Marketing.

“I am motivated by the impact that I can make on a particular industry by working there,” says Philip. “I want to help make the electrical industry a better and more environmentally friendly market. Being eco-friendly is a huge marketing tactic in the electrical field, and I want to make sure that we continue to build and develop new products that sustain and make the ‘going green’ image most companies portray a reality in the field.”

A nephew of Lutron Canada Vice President Peter Saccamano, Phillip is involved in community work, has volunteered as a softball coach in his hometown, and works part time in a technical role at a leading retailer between studies. Although his main focus at the moment is school, he continues to look for opportunities where he can participate in or learn more about the electrical industry.

Kerrwil’s J.W. Kerr Continuing Education Scholarship Award honours the memory of Kerrwil founder J.W. (Jack) Kerr. Established in 1964 By Jack Kerr, Jim Wilson, President of Canada Electric, and James Wilson, President of the Canadian Electrical Contractors Association, Kerrwil Publications Limited has grown into Canada’s oldest privately held publishing company. Under Jack Kerr, Kerrwil’s mission was and remains “We will be a member of the industry first and publisher second.”

“Kerrwil is thrilled to be able to support this program at EFC and it’s great to see such young talent first hand and wonderful to see the desire and energy they have,” comments John Kerr, President of Kerrwil Publication Ltd. “Phillip is a great winner and we are pleased to support the next steps in his career.” Kerr also says “EFC’s vision in putting this scholarship program in place is a wonderful initiative and a great way to help us promote the electrical industry as an energetic and viable career destination.”

For Kerrwil, this program is about more than funding students. It’s an opportunity to promote our industry in every Canadian university and college, and educate young people on the vast opportunities available in the electrical industry, whether it be in engineering, sales, marketing, finance, managing, operations, information technology, or human resources. The possibilities within this industry are endless, and with countless ways to continue to innovate and improve on existing infrastructure, it is the perfect time to start to attract young talent with the drive and energy demonstrated by students such as Phillip Pallotta.

Congratulations, Phillip. Well deserved!
