Alectra Creates Green Energy and Technology Centre

Alectra Gre&t Centre

July 2, 2019

Located in Guelph, Ontario, the Green Energy and Technology (GRE&T) Centre will make energy innovations come to life by identifying, evaluating, developing and deploying emerging, green, and customer-friendly energy solutions across Alectra’s service territory.

The energy industry is experiencing a generational change towards more decentralized, decarbonized and digitized solutions. Low-cost renewable distributed energy resources (DERs) and storage, combined with digital intelligence and communication are reshaping the landscape.

As a hub for green technology solutions, the Alectra GRE&T Centre will catalyze the commercialization and mass consumer adoption of green technology, serving as a bridge between the Research and Development (R&D) phase and the full commercialization of these technology solutions.

To guide the strategic direction of the centre as it develops throughout 2019 with an expected launch in 2020, an advisory committee is currently being established.

The committee is composed of subject matter experts with various different backgrounds and demonstrated commercialization capabilities relevant to the work Alectra is undertaking in smart cities, grid innovation, and its upcoming Clean Energy Tech Accelerator. The committee is well constituted to provide valuable insights and guidance to the GRE&T Centre on pilot projects, demonstrations, partnerships, community engagement activities, accelerator operations, and other related activities, including the general progress of the centre.

Alectra is a family of energy companies that distributes electricity to more than one million homes and businesses in Ontario, with a goal to transform into an integrated, innovative, energy solutions provider that plans, designs and implements on and off-grid services with a focus on green energy.
