Electrical Wholesalers Edmonton Ltd. (EWEL)

EWEL

Being Edmonton’s best independent electrical distributor is EWEL’s ongoing goal. The privately owned company, specializing in residential, commercial and electrical products, is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

EWEL first opened its doors to electrical contractors on July 1, 1975. The company prides itself on nimbleness, catering to their customers’ needs and reacting to market conditions and requirements quickly and efficiently.

“Our inventory and service comes from 40 years of being here and knowing the people,” says Terry Black, one of the company’s principals, in a recent article profiling the business. It’s a personal take on the company’s mission statement: “to excel in satisfying our quality partners specific needs through dedicated experienced staff, quality products and exceptional service.”

Other company principals include Bruce Carson, his son David Carson (company president and the third generation Carson to be involved, following his father Bruce and grandfather Bob), Al Graham, Terry Black and Tom Kelly.

The company now has more than 30 employees serving customers in three locations:

• North West Edmonton
• South Side Edmonton
• Sherwood Park

“If you require solutions for a new building, existing building, new home or home renovation,” says the company, “call us and find out what an independent, locally owned company can do for you.”

EWEL represents a full complement of manufacturers in these sectors:

• electrical
• transformers and motor controls
• HVAC
• fire alarm and intercom
• lighting

What’s big at the moment: “Energy products,” says Bruce Carson. Another growing product priority: home automation.

From a service perspective, EWEL is working towards launching an enterprise resource planning software, scheduled to go live in early 2016. The new system will promote greater interactivity with vendors, growing product lines and increasing sales. For customers, the software will translate into a fully interactive website on which they can place orders and access real-tie stock levels and pricing.
