Span-Canada Created — 1965

CEDA 1965

September 10, 2020

A small but significant entry appears in the minutes of the Directors meeting held September 21: New Distributor Company — Span-Canada Electric Limited.

Don Hughes at that time reported:

“The company (Span-Canada Electric Limited) has taken out a charter in the Province of Ontario and is to be a trading company. In no way is it an association and it does not conflict with CEDA Inc. All members of the new company will continue as members of CEDA. Their plans are to improve distributor operations in all phases. No manufacturing company has any part (of Span-Canada). In general they (Span-Canada) do not compete with each other but hope to help each other to better the profit situation.”

The new company has grown and prospered and became known first as Span-Can and later Seabell.

Also in those same minutes, another small but ominous item: Combines Act.

“D. Rattray stated that he had been called before a committee from Ottawa and asked regarding matters pertaining to CEDA — Ontario — discussions at monthly meetings,” reported Don Hughes.
