Five days, Three Conferences, All Standards

 OTTAWA — Three conferences over five days this August will see standards professionals from across North America come together in Ottawa to talk standards, education and training.

First up will be the 63rd Annual Society for Standards Professionals (SES) Conference, August 11-14. John Walter, CEO of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), will open the conference with a keynote speech. Standards users and developers, with representatives from private industry, government, and standards development organizations, will talk harmonization of standards both internationally and regionally, certification and regulation between Canada and the U.S., and the joint Canada-U.S. Regulatory Cooperation Council. 

Next up is the 9th International Cooperation for Education about Standardization (ICES) Conference on August 14.  Focusing on the educational aspect of standardization throughout a professional’s career, the theme for this year is “Developing Standards Professionals Across Borders.” Targeted for people involved in the standards education community, including students, the conference will examine will career paths, training, support and opportunities for standards professionals. 

Finally, the conference trifecta will wrap with the World Standards Cooperation (WSC) Academic Day 2014.  It will focus on the next generation of standards experts and dive into the role that higher education in standardization has in educating new standard professionals. 

All three conferences will be held at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, in Ottawa.
