North America announced that MERSEN, a global expert in electrical power and advanced materials, joined the product classification standards organization.

MERSEN, a leading player in the electrical power industry, with innovative solutions designed to optimize manufacturing processes in sectors such as energy, transportation electronics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and process industries, is joining other industry leaders including ABB, Eaton, Legrand, Appleton Group, Schneider, and Siemens as they build out the ETIM classification model to meet the terminology and product specific needs of the North American electrical industry.

“We are thrilled that MERSEN is joining ETIM NA to bring a long-needed product descriptor structure to the electrical industry and specifically bring their expertise to enhance product description quality for fuses, switches and surge protection devices,” said Mary Shaw, ETIM North America’s Executive Director. “With their broad product offering across many sectors, Mersen will be joining their peers, helping us make great progress in our initiative and to benefit the channel … from manufacturers through distributors to contractors and engineers.”

And as a direct member, not only will they have access to the ETIM developed tools, but they will participate in as many ETIM NA Product Expert (PE) Groups as their expertise supports. Currently there are three PE groups, encompassing power distribution/automation & drives, wiring devices/lighting controls and wire/cable/conduit products. Fuses and relays are included in the power distribution/automation & drives group and are in queue to be reviewed next.

“We look forward to supporting ETIM North America,” said Kian Sanjari, MERSEN’s Director of Global MarCom. “My team is leading our current ETIM project, and we are actively involved with other ETIM organizations in Europe, so it was only fitting that we be involved in North America. With 130 years of experience and a corporate path of sustainable, profitable growth and social responsibility, we see the ETIM model and involvement with ETIM North America as part of that commitment.”

According to Shaw, it is important that manufacturers and distributors of all sizes, who value channel efficiency, and recognize that the electrical ecosystem is undergoing a digital transformation, be part of the process. The more companies involved the quicker the refinement of the model to North American products can be completed.
