E.B. Horsman & Son are pleased to award the H.G. Horsman 2022 scholarships to Riley Dawe, Jana Santiago, Danika Beblow and Emma Slater.

Riley is in his first year of post-secondary, pursuing his University Studies degree at North Island College. He aspires to be a future guidance counselor or clinical psychologist. “I plan to learn how to recognize, treat and diagnose mental illnesses and the circumstances in which they form,” said Riley. Riley enjoys riding his bike, working out, or playing online video games during his free time. 


Jana is in her first year at the University of British Columbia, working towards her Science degree. Once she completes her degree, she plans to attend Veterinary Medicine Graduate school at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. During her free time, Jana volunteers at different organizations. “Nightshift is an organization that I have been volunteering with for a couple of years, where we distribute food and clothes to the homeless in Surrey,” explained Jana. She also volunteered with the Gogivers foundation in Vancouver, and every week, she helps at her church babysitting the children.


Danika is a first-year at Mount Royal University. She is in the open studies program, which will help her achieve her future goals. She plans to go into Law school in the future. “Bachelor of Arts – Criminal Justice will be my undergraduate degree for when I go into law,” Danika explained. The classes she is taking in open studies will help her work toward her plans. Danika likes to paint with acrylic and play soccer during her free time. She coached soccer during the summer and was co-captain of Ardrossan FC U19 team in 2021-2022.

Emma is a first-year at the University of Lethbridge working towards her Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Management. She aspires to be a business owner one day. “My goal is to own my own business and run it in a way that is true to me and aligns with my morals,” she said. Emma is looking to unleash her full potential, trying to find a field or career that she is passionate about. Emma likes to play sports, specifically soccer, volleyball, and basketball, in her free time. She also enjoys creative writing, reading, as well as weight training.
