Source AwardEaton’s Cooper Lighting Division is now accepting entries for the 38th Annual SOURCE Awards national lighting design competition. The competition is open to lighting designers, architects, engineers, professional designers and consultants who use lighting and controls from Eaton’s Cooper Lighting business in both interior and exterior design projects. Students enrolled in any of the above disciplines can also enter the competition and will be judged in a separate student-only category.

Ideal Trade ShowIdeal Supply said they had a record number of visitors at their 20th Annual Trade Show, held at two locations, in Stratford, ON. and Orillia, ON. The move to add another location was in effort to better accomodate their northern Ontario customers, the company said. “We understood that it was a long day for our northern customers to travel to Stratford, so to make it easier for them, it was decided to run a trade show in their backyard.

BzowyAfter 13 years, Maureen Bzowy retired from E.B. Horsman & Son (EBH) on May 31. Bzowy has been in the Canadian Electrical Industry since 1966 and has worked in nearly every role that can be found in the industry. Staring in administration, Bzowy has been in sales, warehousing, purchasing, Assistant Manager of Marketing, Executive Vice President and eventually VP Marketing at EBH. 

Trevor ElliotTrevor Elliot has joined Panduit as the District Sales Manager for Central Canada (Ontario), announced Mike Baker, director of regional sales Canada.  Elliot comes loaded with 25 years in sales and sales management, with his most recent home at Graybar Canada where for 9 years he held roles in industrial electrical and network sales, as well as managing the GTA/Ontario Comm/data sales team.

Building Permits - September 2021The total value of building permits rose 4.3% to $10.1 billion in September, led by Ontario (+6.3%). Construction intentions in the residential sector were up 8.2%, while the non-residential sector decreased 3.2%.


On a constant dollar basis (2012=100), building permits increased 3.4% to $6.9 billion.

High-value permits for two new condo buildings valued at over $300 million in the cities of Mississauga and Toronto helped push Ontario's multi-family permits up 40.4% to $1.7 billion in September.

Gross domestic product by industry - August 2021Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.4% in August, led by increases in accommodation and food services, retail trade and transportation. The continued easing of public health restrictions and further reopening across the country increased demand across many close contact service industries.


Overall, 15 of 20 industrial sectors were up as growth in services-producing industries (+0.6%) more than offset a decline in goods-producing industries (-0.1%).
