 affiliate distributors Industrial and construction products buying group Affiliated Distributors, Wayne, PA, reported sales in 2013 of $28 billion. AD’s members across all AD divisions grew 4% in 2013.


By division, AD member sales grew as follows:
•    building materials — 20%
•    electrical — 3.5%
•    HVAC — 10%
•    industrial — 2%
•    plumbing/PVF — 4%


Member growth with AD’s supplier partners was more than double AD member total purchase growth. Net distributions to AD members grew 13%. In 2013, AD members hired 1,618 new employees, opened over 100 new locations and made 37 acquisitions.


“2013 was the 26th year, out of the last 30, where AD members achieved double-digit growth with AD suppliers,” says Bill Weisberg, AD’s chairman and CEO. “Our team is laser-focused on our mission and bullish about 2014.”


Affiliated Distributors has more than 610 independently owned members spanning six industries and two countries.

Looking BackIn the 1930s to 1940s, CEDA’s Western Canada membership was very stable with old line independent companies like Horsman, Ashdowns, Brettell, Marshall Wells, Electrical Supplies Ltd., etc.

Small electrical distributors just were not acceptable for membership as they did not carry the main-line manufacturers’ goods, publish a wiring device catalogue, or employ four to five salesmen as CEDA requested.

Laura Dempsey has been working as an outside sales representative for E.B. Horsman & Son for over 15 years, and is a member of the BCEA U40 network of young professionals. She lives in Langley, BC and is proud of her position and work with E.B. Horsman, particularly as she is the second Dempsey generation to work for the company.
