Oscan 1Over 135 senior executives from IMARK Canada member distributors and IMARK Canada suppliers attended the meeting, which was held June 26-28 at Le Westin in Montreal, Quebec.

“We are very pleased with the growth of our membership and we were thrilled with the meeting, in terms of both the supplier support and member engagement,” says Jim Taggart, President of IMARK Canada. “We have a very bright future in Canada.

”The IMARK Canada headquarters team provided an update on the current organization as well as plans for growth in 2018 and beyond. According to Jerry Knight, IMARK Vice President of Supplier Relations, “IMARK Canada members are doing a great job growing their purchases from our IMARK Canada supplier partners.

”Over 1000 private one-on-one meeting sessions between member and supplier executives took place during the meeting. Additionally, Swati Vora-Patel, Director of Research and Communications for Electro-Federation Canada, presented a summary of the EFC report, A Roadmap for Digital Supply Chain Excellence in the Canadian Electrical Industry.

At a ceremony held during the event, Taggart announced the winners of the following awards for superior performance by IMARK Canada members and suppliers. 

•     Acuity Brands Lighting Canada — 2018 Supplier of the Year award based on objective criteria related to their active participation and superior sales growth with IMARK Canada members. Shown in photo above: Bob Smith, Darrin Hoyle, Dan Iacovelli, Erik Rybaki of ABL-Canada and Jim Taggart.

Looking BackIn the 1930s to 1940s, CEDA’s Western Canada membership was very stable with old line independent companies like Horsman, Ashdowns, Brettell, Marshall Wells, Electrical Supplies Ltd., etc.

Small electrical distributors just were not acceptable for membership as they did not carry the main-line manufacturers’ goods, publish a wiring device catalogue, or employ four to five salesmen as CEDA requested.
